Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif presided over a special meeting of Punjab government in which Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Information Minister Uzma Bukhari, Food Minister Bilal Yasin, Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq, MPA Sania Ashiq, Chief Secretary , SMBR, Secretaries Food, Agriculture, Finance, Chairman PITB and other concerned officials attended.
In the briefing, the meeting was told that in the past, procurement used to supply wheat to the mills at a lower price, the subsidy was the same for the poor and the rich. Revolving debt of 630 billion rupees has climbed on the government, if reforms are not done, it was feared that the debt will reach 1.1 trillion. 25 crores per day was being paid only as interest on the loan, the government has abolished the general subsidy on wheat.
In the meeting, it was decided in principle to give solar panels for tube wells to the farmers. Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif directed to solve the problem of expensive electricity of small farmers.
Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said that according to the IMF, electricity and gas will be more expensive, how long will the patience of the people be tested. Give solar panels to farmers, government money should be spent on it. The farmer should get full reward for his labor. The farmer should be protected from the exploitation of the farmers and the millers.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that farmers will be provided with modern machinery, drip irrigation will also be reviewed. A comprehensive strategy should be formulated to control the mafia selling expensive fertilizers.
