Trump Avoids Election Defeat in First Public Address, Defends Iran War

US President Donald Trump remains silent on Republican losses in the 2026 midterm elections during his first public address, focusing instead on White House construction and security projects.

US President Donald Trump avoided discussing his Republican Party’s defeat in the 2026 midterm elections during his first public appearance following the vote, instead highlighting plans for a new White House ballroom, advanced security arrangements and a proposed drone facility.

Speaking for approximately 20 minutes, Trump outlined the construction and security features of the proposed ballroom, which he said would provide space for hosting major government events and international dignitaries.

He also described plans for a modern drone port at the White House, saying the facility would have the capacity to accommodate more than 100 drones. According to Trump, the project aims to strengthen aerial surveillance and security around the White House and Washington, DC.

Trump Says Iran Must Not Acquire Nuclear Weapons

Addressing Iran’s nuclear programme, Trump reiterated that the United States would not allow Tehran to acquire nuclear weapons.

He defended US military action against Iran, claiming that the operation had significantly damaged the country’s nuclear capabilities.

Trump argued that military intervention was necessary to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, which he described as a potential threat to regional and international security.

He maintained that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remained a major priority of his administration.

Trump Acknowledges Iran War Affected Midterm Election Results

According to Reuters, Trump acknowledged in interviews with Fox News and The Wall Street Journal that the war against Iran had contributed to the Republican Party’s disappointing performance in the midterm elections.

He described the conflict as one of the factors influencing the election outcome but insisted that his decision to launch military action was correct.

Trump said he would make the same decision again if given another opportunity.

The conflict, now reportedly entering its ninth month, has remained unpopular among sections of the American public. Democratic candidates repeatedly criticised the administration over the war, arguing that rising fuel and essential commodity prices had increased financial pressure on American households.

‘We Would Have Won If I Were on the Ballot’

Commenting on the Republican defeat, Trump claimed that his party would have secured victory if his own name had appeared on the ballot.

He suggested that he had failed to transfer his personal popularity to Republican candidates despite his political influence.

Trump also warned Democrats against pursuing impeachment, claiming that such an effort would severely damage their party.

White House Ballroom Project Includes Advanced Security Features

Trump defended the construction of the new White House ballroom, describing it as an important addition for future presidential administrations.

He said the building was being designed with modern security requirements in mind, including protective roofing, reinforced glass and specialised arrangements for drone surveillance.

Trump also claimed that the proposed security features would offer protection against drones, missiles and gunfire.

He suggested that the ballroom could eventually host prominent international leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Democrats’ Victory Creates New Challenges for Trump

The Democratic Party’s reported gains in both chambers of Congress have created significant political challenges for the Trump administration.

With Democrats gaining control of the House of Representatives and the Senate, Trump’s government is expected to face increased scrutiny over legislation, spending decisions and major policy initiatives.

Iran’s war, inflation and rising fuel prices emerged as major issues during the election campaign.

Democratic leaders have highlighted ending the conflict, addressing the rising cost of living and holding the Trump administration accountable as key priorities.

Although Trump avoided discussing the election defeat during his first public address, his subsequent interviews indicated that he recognised the political impact of the Iran war while continuing to defend his military decisions.
