Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem records a best throw of 80.29 metres but misses the podium in Nagoya
NAGOYA: Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem finished fourth in the javelin throw final at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, missing out on a podium finish despite recording a best throw of 80.29 metres.
Nadeem struggled to complete a consistent series, with only two of his six attempts counted as valid. He opened the competition with a throw of 76.69 metres before his second attempt was ruled a foul.
The Pakistani star improved his mark to 80.29 metres with his third attempt, which ultimately remained his best effort of the competition.
However, Nadeem could not register valid marks in his final three attempts, leaving him outside the medal positions.
Sri Lanka’s Ramesh Pathirage claimed the Asian Games javelin title with a throw of 88.55 metres. India’s Yashvir Singh took silver with 85.14 metres, while another Indian athlete, Rohit Yadav, secured bronze with 84.35 metres.
Pakistan’s Muhammad Yasir also competed in the final and finished ninth among 14 athletes, with his best effort measuring 73.50 metres.
The Asian Games result follows Nadeem’s ninth-place finish at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where he recorded a best throw of 77.41 metres.
Nadeem continues to hold a historic place in Pakistan’s athletics record. At the Paris 2024 Olympics, he won the javelin throw gold medal with a massive 92.97-metre effort, setting an Olympic record and delivering Pakistan its first athletics Olympic gold in four decades.
