BYD-MMC She Runs Programme Attracts 500 Women in Karachi

Karachi, November 6, 2026 – BYD-MMC’s women-focused running initiative, ‘She Runs’, has attracted more than 500 applicants, highlighting growing interest among Pakistani women in professional running and fitness.

The initiative, introduced by Mega Motor Company (MMC) as part of its sponsorship of the BYD Karachi Marathon for the second consecutive year, aims to encourage female participation in long-distance running through professional coaching, structured training and dedicated support.

Out of more than 500 applicants, 50 shortlisted candidates participated in the final selection event at Ramada Creek, Karachi. The selection process included a 10-kilometre endurance run, warm-up and cool-down exercises, fitness assessments, interviews and medical evaluations. Following the assessments, 10 women were selected for the programme.

The selection and training process is being led by Shah Faisal Khan, Co-Founder of Platinum Fitness and a strength and conditioning coach specialising in marathon performance and rehabilitation, alongside Uzma Abid, a marathon runner and certified running coach associated with UESCA and MatrixFit.

The selected participants will undergo a structured 10-week training programme to prepare for the BYD Karachi Marathon 2027, scheduled for January 3, 2027. The programme will focus on improving endurance, enhancing physical performance and preparing participants for race day.

Commenting on the initiative, Anum Abdullah, Senior General Manager – HR, Admin and CSR at Mega Motor Company, said that Pakistan has many women with the ambition and determination to participate in sports, but access to professional training and support remains a challenge.

She said the overwhelming response to ‘She Runs’ reflects the interest and potential among women, adding that the initiative aims to turn their ambitions into achievements while encouraging more women to embrace running as a sport.

Through ‘She Runs’ and its continued association with the BYD Karachi Marathon 2027, Mega Motor Company aims to promote healthier lifestyles, greater female participation in sports and opportunities for emerging athletic talent in Pakistan.
