Pakistan Army Celebrates PLA’s 99th Founding Anniversary at GHQ, Strengthens China Defence Ties
Rawalpindi, Pakistan – August 1, 2026: The Pakistan Army commemorated the 99th founding anniversary of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, underscoring the enduring strategic partnership and deep military cooperation between Pakistan and China.

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Jiang Zaidong, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Pakistan, who served as the Guest of Honour. Also present were Major General Wang Zhong, China’s Defence Attaché, senior officials from the Chinese Embassy, and high-ranking officers from the Pakistan Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, welcomed the Chinese delegation and extended warm congratulations to the PLA on its 99th anniversary. He praised the Chinese military for its significant contributions to China’s national defence, socio-economic development, and global peace and security efforts.

During his address, the Field Marshal described the Pakistan-China friendship as unique, time-tested, and resilient, emphasizing that it has continued to grow stronger despite evolving regional and international challenges. He stated that the Pakistan Armed Forces and the PLA share an unshakable bond built on mutual trust, strategic cooperation, and a shared vision for regional peace, stability, and the protection of common interests.
The event also highlighted the close defence collaboration between the two countries, which has expanded across military training, defence technology, counterterrorism cooperation, and strategic dialogue over the years.

Addressing the gathering, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Army for hosting the commemorative ceremony. He commended the Pakistan Armed Forces for their sacrifices and achievements in combating terrorism and reaffirmed China’s steadfast support for Pakistan.
The ambassador reiterated Beijing’s commitment to further strengthening the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, describing Pakistan as a trusted friend and strategic partner. He emphasized that China remains dedicated to enhancing bilateral cooperation in defence, security, and regional development.
The ceremony reflected the continuing depth of Pakistan-China military relations and reinforced both countries’ commitment to expanding strategic collaboration for peace, security, and stability in the region.
