BYD Produces 17 Millionth New Energy Vehicle, Sets Global NEV Production Record

July 9, 2026: Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has achieved another historic milestone by producing its 17 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV), becoming the world’s first automaker to reach the landmark production figure.

The milestone vehicle, an all-new Seal 08 large flagship family sedan, rolled off the production line at B Y D’s Xi’an manufacturing plant, highlighting the company’s rapid expansion and leadership in the global new energy vehicle market.

B Y D said the achievement reflects its continued technological innovation, broad product lineup, and expanding international presence. The company has maintained its leading position despite increasing competition and consolidation within the global NEV industry.

The automaker also reported strong sales performance during the first half of 2026. B Y D sold a total of 1,808,511 vehicles worldwide between January and June. Overseas sales of passenger cars and pickup trucks reached 789,367 units, representing a 68% year-on-year increase, underscoring the company’s growing influence in international markets.

With production surpassing 17 million vehicles, B Y D continues to strengthen its position as a global leader in electric and hybrid mobility while accelerating the worldwide transition toward sustainable transportation.
