After Babar Azam resigned from the duties of leading the white ball team, three more names have come to light for the captaincy of the Pakistani team.
According to reports, wicketkeeper-batsman Muhammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi were considered strong candidates for captaincy as seniors, but now the names of opener Fakhar Zaman, vice-captain of the Test team Saud Shakeel and all-rounder Salman Ali Agha are doing the rounds.
Saud Shakeel, who recently became Test vice-captain in Rizwan’s place during Pakistan’s series against Bangladesh, is seen as a possible candidate.
Similarly, Fakhr Zaman, who is the captain of Lahore Qalandars in Pakistan Super League (PSL), can also be considered due to his aggressive strategy, while Salman Agha has never captained domestically.
In the ICC World Cup 2023 scheduled in India, there was a change in leadership due to Pakistan’s disappointing performance and Babar Azam’s resignation was taken. Later, Shan Masood Test and Shaheen were given the white ball duties, but after just one series, Shaheen was replaced. The captaincy of the T20 was taken away and then Babar Azam was given the leadership duties, on which there were reports of differences among the cricketers.
On the other hand, wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan had indicated that he had not received any offer regarding the captaincy from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Mohammad Rizwan has decided not to make a hasty decision on the offer as he wants to convey concerns to the PCB regarding the past treatment of captains.
