Rawalpindi: Pakistan Customs took action at Islamabad Dry Port and seized a consignment of foreign sweaters for mis-declaration and violation of the Customs Act to realize a heavy loss to the government exchequer on account of duty taxes.
According to the authorities, the importer tried to realize a loss of about one crore rupees to the exchequer with the alleged collusion of the clearing agents. A case has been registered against importer Junaid Siddiqui and customs clearing agents Abdul Waheed and Mushtaq Ahmed.
A case has been registered in Police Station I&P Customs Collectorate Islamabad in the complaint of Appraising Officer of Customs Dry Port Noman Ali, according to the text of which Assistant Collector Dry Port Officer Ali Khalid was informed that in connection with the shipment of foreign sweaters, Ms. An attempt can be made to damage the public exchequer in the form of customs duty through declaration.
The Assistant Collector formed a team for checking under his supervision, which checked the consignment and found 36,732 foreign sweaters. The number of foreign suitors on the GD (record) was 11,250.
Importer Junaid Siddiqui and customs clearing agents Abdul Waheed and Mushtaq Ahmed tried to cause more than 99 lakh 49 thousand rupees loss to the government treasury in the form of customs duty and tax by misdeclaration with collusion and malice.
Officials say that all consignments and containers of the importer have been seized and investigation has been started by registering a case under the Customs Act.
