KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly unanimously approved the anti-narcotics draft law, which makes the use, manufacture, supply and sale of narcotics a non-bailable offence.
The draft anti-narcotics law has been approved by the Standing Committee with amendments. Senior Information Minister Sharjeel Memon, while addressing the assembly, said that no matter how influential people involved in drugs are, they will not be able to escape, after the new law, there will be more effective anti-narcotics operations.
Under the new law, the sale and use of narcotics in educational institutions and its surroundings will be severely punished, while the excise police will be able to raid any building on information about drugs.
The vehicle caught in drug delivery will be usable after a fixed period while the number of excise stations will be increased to prevent drugs.
Under the new law, the fine for synthetic and other narcotic drugs will be at least 50 thousand rupees, while the property and goods made from drug money will also be confiscated.
Anti-narcotics cases will be heard in a special court which will be bound to decide the cases within 6 months. Cultivation, manufacture, delivery and sale of drugs shall be punishable by 3 years to life imprisonment.
Excise police will investigate for anti-narcotics, but if the police register a wrong case, the punishment will be three years. Police, Excise Police will register a case.
It should be noted that for the first time after the 18th amendment, the Sindh government has made a provincial anti-narcotics law.
