Asif Zardari elected as the President of Pakistan for the second time, swearing-in will take place today
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has been elected as the President of Pakistan for the second time with an overwhelming majority and the swearing-in ceremony will be held today.
Polling was held in the national and four provincial assemblies for the election of the 14th president of the country, the presiding officer in the national assembly was Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Amir Farooq, in the presidential election, Senator Sherry Rehman was the polling agent of Asif Ali Zardari while Senator Shafiq Tareen. Mehmood Khan Achakzai was appointed polling agent.
According to the Election Commission, the Election Commission has received the results of the polling stations established in the Parliament House and the four provincial assemblies for the presidential election.
According to the results, Asif Ali Zardari, the candidate of the government alliance, won the election by securing 411 electoral votes, while Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the presidential candidate of the Sunni Unity Council, secured 181 electoral votes.
The Election Commission said that out of the total 1185 seats in the Electoral College, 92 seats are vacant, as a result of which 1093 voters were eligible to exercise their right to vote in the presidential election, but 1044 members of the assembly exercised their right to vote and 9 Votes rejected.
In the results released by the Election Commission, it was stated that 1035 votes were declared valid in the presidential election.
Asif Ali Zardari got 255 votes and Mehmood Khan Achakzai got 119 votes from Senate and National Assembly.
Asif Zardari got 246 votes and Mahmood Achakzai got 100 votes from Punjab Assembly. Asif Zardari got 151 votes and Mehmood Achakzai got 9 votes from Sindh Assembly. Asif Zardari got 47 votes from Balochistan Assembly while Mehmood Khan Achakzai did not get a single vote. From Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Mehmood Khan Achakzai got 91 votes and Asif Zardari got 17 votes, one vote was rejected.
The Election Commission said that the official result of the presidential election will be released today in the form of Form 7.
National Assembly
Tehreek-e-Insaf Senator Aun Abbas cast his vote, on this occasion he raised slogans in favor of PTI founder chairman Imran Khan. On calling the name of Senator Ijaz Chaudhry for vote, the members of the Sunni Alliance Council raised slogans of Shame Shame. Members of PTI and Sunni Ittehad Council raised slogans for the release of Ijaz Chaudhry.
4 members of JUI-F from the Senate, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed of Jamaat-e-Islami did not cast their vote. Similarly, Senator Muzaffar Hussain Shah of GDA and Shibli Faraz of PTI were also among those who did not vote. Apart from this, Senator Ejaz Chaudhry and Azam Swati of PTI also could not exercise their right to vote. 8 members of JUI did not cast their votes from the National Assembly.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly
After the polling time in the provincial assembly, the votes were counted, according to which the elected candidate of Sunni Ittehad Council Mahmood Khan Achakzai got 91 votes. Asif Ali Zardari has got 17 votes while one vote was rejected. According to this formula, Mehmood Khan Achakzai got 41 electoral votes while Asif Zardari got 8 electoral votes.
A total of 109 votes have been polled for the presidential election in Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. 36 votes were not cast. Among them, 21 women members of assembly, 4 minority members are included while elections were not held in 2 constituencies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Sindh Assembly
Chief Justice Sindh High Court Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi performed the duties of the presiding officer in the Sindh Assembly. Asif Zardari got one vote for 2.5 seats in Sindh Assembly.
Muhammad Farooq, a member of Jamaat-e-Islami in the Sindh Assembly, did not cast his vote in the presidential election. He said that we are not part of this presidential election, we are not voting according to the instructions of our party leadership. I came to Sindh Assembly not for election but for my work.
36 MQM MLAs exercised their right to vote. 116 members of the People’s Party cast their votes, 9 independent members of the assembly supported by Tehreek-e-Insaf cast their votes, while one vote was rejected and kept aside.
Asif Zardari got 151 votes and Mehmood Achakzai 9 votes from Sindh Assembly, one vote received by Zardari was rejected.
According to the results released by the Election Commission, Asif Zardari got 58 votes and Mehmood Khan Achakzai only 3 votes from the Sindh Assembly.
Polling in Balochistan Assembly
Chief Justice Balochistan High Court Naeem Akhtar Afghan was appointed as the presiding officer. People’s Party MLAs Zahoor Bilidi and Ali Madad Jatak were appointed polling agents of Asif Zardari.
64 members of Balochistan Assembly were eligible to vote, one vote of Balochistan Assembly members counted as one. From here Asif Zardari got 47 votes while Mehmood Khan Achakzai did not get a single vote.
Polling in Punjab Assembly
In the Punjab Assembly, 352 out of 353 members cast their votes, in which Asif Zardari got 246 votes and Mahmood Achakzai 100 votes while 6 votes were rejected. In Punjab, 5.49 members together constitute one vote.
The Election Commission said that PPPP chief Asif Zardari got 47 votes and Mehmood Khan Achakzai got 18 votes from the Punjab Assembly.
