KARACHI: The delivery van driver of a courier company carrying mobile phones worth Rs 7 crore was kidnapped from Sadar Star City Mall, but the driver was released after some time.
According to Karachi Police, the accused had stopped the delivery van in Firozabad area by side hitting it, the accused were riding in a rickshaw and a loading Suzuki and got into the delivery van at gunpoint.
The police said that after five hours, the accused dropped the driver from the van but fled from the spot with the van loaded with mobile phones. The driver reached the head office and reported the incident.
He said that the delivery van was traced with the help of a tracker and the delivery van was found abandoned near Parsa Tower in Tipu Sultan area. The courier company’s staff reached the delivery van and the van was empty.
The police say that the statement of the driver of the van is being recorded and the time of the incident was told by the driver at 10:00 pm, there were 35 boxes of mobile phones in the van and 10 to 12 mobile phones in one box The value of the mobile phone is estimated to be around two crores.
Trader leader Muhammad Rizwan Irfan said that this is the 14th incident of this kind.
He demanded to arrest the accused involved in the incident and recover the goods of the traders and addressed the IG Sindh and said that the traders should be provided protection.
