ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government wants to establish a competitive electricity market.
The caretaker government directed the Power Division to amend the National Electricity Act 1910 to create a competitive market for purchase, sale and transmission of electricity, the previous governments had introduced the Competitive Trading Bilateral Contract Market (CTBCM). have tried to establish, however, no significant progress has been achieved.
With this model, consumers can buy electricity directly from power producers, while consumers get electricity from the national grid, which avoids theft and line losses.
The Power Division informed the CCOE that it is already working on the proposal and had earlier submitted a CTBCM model and roadmap to the CCOE on March 27, 2020, wherein the CCOE had shown keen interest and expressed determination to adopt it, on which the Power Division was directed to prepare implementation reports on the project.
