ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court ordered the closure of three crushing plants near the population in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A case related to stone crushing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was heard by a 3-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, in which the court ordered the closure of 3 crushing plants in Suraj Gali area of Khanpur, in which Haji Khattab Gul, Niazi One and Niazi Two are included.
The court also sought a report from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government about the factual situation of other stone crushing plants.
During the hearing, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah inquired whether the crushing plants involved in the case are meeting the standards. On which Additional Advocate General Kausar Ali Shah said that there are no presence of 50 houses near the crushing plants, but the plants are not meeting the standards.
The Additional Advocate General told the court that the stone crushers near the population have already been shut down. The court should not issue a general order for the closure of crushing plants, it will have a huge impact on investment. Various factories including Lucky Cement come up.
Aitzaz Ahsan, the lawyer of the store crushers, said in the court that the local people deliberately create pollution. A few days ago we spent 15 crores on modern machinery to reduce pollution. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah asked on which machinery 15 crores were spent? State the name and function of the machinery from the paper book. Apply stone crushers as soon as the criteria are met.
Lawyer Chaudhry Imran Hassan, on behalf of the local people in the court, requested the court that the law has also been challenged before the court, and the main case should be kept pending. Later, the court adjourned the further hearing of the case indefinitely.
