Standard Chartered Pakistan Posts PKR 24.4bn Profit in H1 2026

ISLAMABAD, August 21, 2026: Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited reported a profit before tax of PKR 24.4 billion for the first half of 2026, as the bank maintained strong cost controls, expanded its lending portfolio and continued to strengthen its balance sheet.

The bank’s profit before tax was lower than the PKR 32.9 billion recorded during the same period last year, primarily reflecting the impact of declining interest rates. Revenue stood at PKR 34.8 billion, down PKR 9.6 billion year-on-year.

Standard Chartered said the impact of lower interest rates was partly cushioned by a reduction in funding costs and growth in its balance sheet. Quarterly revenue also improved by 10 percent compared with the first quarter of 2026, highlighting continued momentum in its core businesses.

Expenses Remain Under Control

The bank reported a 5 percent decline in total expenses compared with the first half of 2025, despite continued investment in employees and infrastructure.

Its cost-to-income ratio remained at 33 percent, which the bank described as one of the lowest levels in the industry. Management said continued cost discipline remains central to its strategy of maintaining operational efficiency while investing in future growth.

Standard Chartered also recorded a net release of PKR 1.1 billion during the period, supported by prudent risk management and recoveries of previously classified bad debts. The release marked the bank’s fifth consecutive year of net reversals.

Deposits and Advances Show Growth

The bank’s total deposits reached PKR 671 billion, representing a 3 percent increase from the beginning of the year.

A deposit optimisation strategy helped improve the composition of the bank’s liabilities, with current accounts accounting for 57 percent of the overall deposit book.

On the lending side, net advances increased by PKR 31 billion, or 15 percent, during the first half of 2026. The growth was driven mainly by stronger corporate lending and mortgage financing.

Standard Chartered also maintained its position in the mortgage market, offering financing solutions aimed at supporting home ownership among its customers.

Supporting Pakistan’s International Capital Market Access

The bank said it continued to work closely with the Government of Pakistan amid improving macroeconomic conditions.

As part of its role in the country’s international capital market activity, Standard Chartered supported Pakistan’s return to international capital markets after a four-year gap through a USD 750 million Eurobond and a USD 250 million Panda Bond issuance.

The bank said it remains focused on connecting Pakistani businesses with international markets, investment opportunities and cross-border financing.

Strong Capital Position

Standard Chartered Pakistan reported a Return on Equity of 21.3 percent for the period, while its Capital Adequacy Ratio stood at 21.2 percent.

The bank’s Board of Directors also announced an interim cash dividend of 30 percent, equivalent to PKR 3 per share, for the half year ended June 30, 2026.

Commenting on the results, Adil Salahuddin, CEO and Head of Coverage of Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Limited, said the first-half performance demonstrated the resilience of the bank’s franchise and the strength of its relationships with clients.

He said improving economic conditions, renewed investor confidence and greater engagement with international markets were creating new opportunities for businesses seeking to expand, invest and access global markets.

Salahuddin added that Standard Chartered would continue supporting Pakistan’s ambitions to strengthen its position as a gateway for trade, investment and capital.

Focus on Digital Transformation and Inclusion

The bank said it continued to invest in digital capabilities and infrastructure to improve customer experience and introduce innovative banking solutions.

It also highlighted progress in strengthening its control and compliance framework, with a focus on people, culture and systems.

During the first half of 2026, Standard Chartered continued several community-focused initiatives, including the SC Women in Tech Accelerator, which supports women-led businesses and entrepreneurs.

The bank also highlighted its Goal Accelerator Programme, which aims to help disadvantaged girls and young women develop economic resilience through sport, as well as its partnership with Karachi United to promote sports and social development among young people.

The bank said it also advanced initiatives focused on accessibility, disability-confident employment and greater economic opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Standard Chartered reported a 30 percent women diversity ratio, which it said was ahead of the industry average, while sustainability and responsible business practices remained key priorities.

The bank’s Board also expressed appreciation to Rehan M. Shaikh, outgoing CEO, Head of Coverage and Director, for his leadership and contribution to the franchise, while welcoming Adil Salahuddin to the role.
