Peshawar Women Get a Green Ride: Free Electric Scooters Approved!

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a scheme to provide free electric scooters to female students and working women, with Peshawar set to be the first city to benefit from the initiative.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who directed relevant authorities to take immediate steps to launch the scooter distribution programme.

According to officials, the initiative will initially target female students and working women in Peshawar. The programme is expected to be expanded to other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in subsequent phases.

Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said the provision of electric scooters would help women gain safer and more convenient access to educational institutions and workplaces.

He also highlighted the environmental benefits of shifting towards electric transportation, saying the use of electric scooters could contribute to reducing air pollution.

The initiative is being viewed as a step towards improving women’s mobility and supporting their participation in education and employment. Further details regarding eligibility criteria, the number of scooters and the application process are expected to be announced by the provincial authorities.
