CM KP Sohail Afridi Warns of Nationwide Protest if Imran Khan Meeting Is Denied
ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has warned that his party could launch a nationwide protest if a meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan is not allowed on Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad alongside PTI leaders, including Salman Akram Raja, Afridi said all parliamentarians would reach Adiala Jail on Thursday to seek a meeting with the PTI founder.
He also announced that PTI lawmakers would stage a protest outside the Supreme Court the following day as part of their efforts to press for access to Imran Khan.
Family Offers Assurance Over Political Discussion
Sohail Afridi said Imran Khan’s family had given an assurance that no political discussion would take place during the proposed meeting.
He urged the authorities to accept the family’s guarantee and allow the meeting, stressing that the purpose was to check on Imran Khan’s health and welfare.
The KP chief minister said the party’s immediate demand was for Imran Khan to receive proper medical care. He also expressed concern over the health of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, calling for their medical conditions to be addressed.
Afridi Raises Concern Over Imran Khan’s Health
Afridi claimed that Imran Khan was in good health when he was taken into custody and alleged that his condition had deteriorated while in Adiala Jail.
He held the government, prison administration and other relevant authorities responsible for ensuring the former prime minister’s wellbeing.
The KP chief minister further claimed that PTI supporters and young people across the country were frustrated over political and economic conditions. He warned that a large number of people could take to the streets if their concerns remained unaddressed.
PTI Announces Further Mobilisation
Afridi said PTI parliamentarians would continue their political and legal efforts to secure a meeting with Imran Khan. He also referred to September 27 as a significant date for a nationwide mobilisation.
The statements come amid continued tensions between the PTI leadership and the federal government over Imran Khan’s imprisonment, access to him and his reported health condition.
The authorities have yet to publicly respond to Afridi’s latest warning.
