Pakistan Navy Elevates Four Top Officers to Rear Admiral Rank
ISLAMABAD, July 28, 2026: Four senior officers of the Pakistan Navy — Commodore Tasawar Iqbal, Commodore Muhammad Umair, Commodore Shahid Wasif and Commodore Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar — have been promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral in recognition of their distinguished service and professional contributions.
Rear Admiral Tasawar Iqbal was commissioned into the Operations Branch of the Pakistan Navy in 1995. He is a graduate of the Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore, and the National Defence University, Islamabad. He has also completed the Inter Services Staff Course from France. During his career, he has held several key command and staff positions, including Commanding Officer PNS ALAMGIR, Commander 25th Destroyer Squadron, Commandant Pakistan Naval Academy, and Senior Pakistan Navy Officer at Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He is currently serving as Commander West and has been awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) for his meritorious services.
Rear Admiral Muhammad Umair joined the Pakistan Navy’s Operations Branch in 1996. He is a graduate of the Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore, and the National Defence University, Islamabad. He has also completed Communication Command Course from China and Naval Staff College Course from the United States. His notable appointments include Commanding Officer PNS QUWWAT, PNS TARIQ, PNS TABUK, Commander 14th Destroyer Squadron and Deputy Director Naval Operational Plans (Strategy) at Naval Headquarters Islamabad. He is currently serving as Commandant Pakistan Naval Academy, Karachi and has been awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).
Rear Admiral Shahid Wasif was commissioned into the Operations Branch in 1996. He is a graduate of the Pakistan Navy War College and National Defence University. He has completed the Advance Command and Staff Course from the United Kingdom, earning a Master’s Degree in Defence Studies from King’s College London. He also holds qualifications from Australia, including Defence and Strategic Studies and a Master’s in International Relations from Deakin University. His career includes key assignments such as Commanding Officer PNS SAIF, Deputy Director Naval Operational Plans (Strategy), Assistant Naval Secretary (Operations), Director Human Resources and Principal Secretary to Chief of the Naval Staff. He is currently serving as Commander 25th Destroyer Squadron, Karachi and has received the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).
Rear Admiral Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar was commissioned into the Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1996. He is a graduate of Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore, and National Defence University, Islamabad. He has completed the Advance Command & Staff Course from the UK and holds a Master’s Degree in Defence Studies from King’s College London. His distinguished career includes command of PNS ZARRAR, PNS SHAMSHEER, PNS ZULFIQUAR and Commander 10th Patrol Craft Squadron. He has also served as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations), Naval Advisor at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, and Deputy Commandant Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore. He is currently serving as Naval Secretary at Naval Headquarters Islamabad and has been awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-e-Basalat.
The promotions reflect the Pakistan Navy’s continued commitment to recognizing professionalism, leadership and outstanding service of its officers.
