Pakistan Launches AI Training for Senior Government Leaders Under Digital Nation Agenda
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has taken another step toward accelerating digital transformation as the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, in collaboration with Ignite – National Technology Fund and Alibaba Cloud, launched a specialized artificial intelligence (AI) training programme for senior public sector leaders.
The inaugural “AI for Public Sector Leaders“ session was held on Tuesday at the National Incubation Center (NIC) in Islamabad, bringing together federal secretaries, directors general, and senior government officials responsible for policymaking, public service delivery, technology procurement, and implementation of the Digital Nation Pakistan initiative.
The programme is designed to equip government leaders with the knowledge and practical skills required to responsibly integrate AI into public institutions. Participants attended expert-led sessions, hands-on demonstrations, and practical exercises that showcased how AI can streamline institutional workflows, enhance decision-making, and address operational challenges across government departments.
A key focus of the training was responsible AI governance, covering critical topics such as data privacy, cybersecurity, data sovereignty, accuracy, transparency, and human oversight in AI-driven systems.
Officials also received practical exposure to Alibaba Cloud’s AI technologies, including Qoder and QoderWork, which demonstrated capabilities such as automated document summarization, citizen response management, preparation of official briefs, and development of AI-powered applications using verified government information.
Special Secretary for IT and Telecom Syed Muhammad Ammar Naqvi described the initiative as a significant milestone in Pakistan’s digital transformation journey.
“This training is a practical step toward the Government’s vision for a digitally empowered Pakistan. By bringing senior officials into direct engagement with AI tools, the IT Ministry is ensuring that our Digital Nation Pakistan agenda is driven by leaders who understand both its potential and its responsibilities,” he said.
Ignite CEO Muhammad Bilal Abbasi emphasized that Pakistan is building strong momentum through strategic partnerships with academia and global technology companies, including Alibaba Group.
“With strong momentum already building through our academic and industry partnerships, including with Alibaba Group, and with today’s officers ready to take this forward, Pakistan is ready to surge ahead,” Abbasi stated.
The AI leadership programme marks the first in a planned series of training initiatives under the Digital Nation Pakistan agenda, which aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of leveraging advanced technologies to modernize governance and improve public service delivery.
Government officials believe that integrating AI into public administration will enable faster information processing, more informed policymaking, greater institutional efficiency, and improved citizen services while ensuring responsible and secure use of public data.
