Mumbai: Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi has landed in a legal controversy after an aviation company filed a defamation case seeking INR 3 crore in damages over remarks she allegedly made about a chartered aircraft on social media.
The dispute reportedly dates back to December last year, when Fatehi travelled on a chartered flight from Mumbai to Jaipur. During the journey, the actress recorded videos inside the aircraft and later shared images and footage with her millions of Instagram followers.
In her social media posts, Fatehi reportedly described the aircraft as a small “toy” and referred to it as a “Lego airplane,” comments that the aviation company claims damaged its reputation.
According to the company’s petition, the actress’s large social media following meant that her remarks reached a substantial audience. The aviation firm alleges that the posts created a negative impression about the aircraft and affected its commercial interests.
The company has claimed that bookings declined by around 15 to 20 percent following the controversy, while cancellations also increased. It has therefore approached the court seeking financial compensation for the alleged loss of business and reputational damage.
The aviation company has also rejected any suggestion that the aircraft was unsuitable for passenger travel. Its legal petition reportedly states that the plane was properly certified by India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and was being operated according to the applicable safety and operating procedures.
Along with the compensation claim, the company has asked the court to direct Fatehi to remove the allegedly defamatory videos and other related content from her social media accounts.
The petitioner has further requested that the actress be directed to issue a public clarification regarding her remarks.
The case is scheduled to come before a court in Gandhinagar on September 25, where the allegations and claims are expected to be considered.
The dispute highlights how comments made by high-profile celebrities on social media can quickly develop into legal and commercial controversies, particularly when they concern businesses operating in highly regulated industries such as aviation.
At this stage, the allegations made by the aviation company remain claims before the court, and the filing of a defamation case does not by itself establish liability on Fatehi’s part.
