Lahore, 02 May 2026: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired an important meeting to review the Gujranwala Mass Transit System project, aimed at facilitating travel for approximately 2.6 million passengers. During the meeting, she approved the project’s design and directed the relevant authorities to ensure connectivity of all areas of Gujranwala to the mass transit network through feeder buses. She also instructed the construction of two tunnel sections to improve traffic flow.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved 17 to 19 kilometers of the Gujranwala Mass Transit train route to be built underground and directed that solar systems be installed at every station and depot.
She set a deadline of 12 months for the completion of the 31.5-kilometer Gujranwala Mass Transit System, stretching from Gakhar to Aimenabad. Officials briefed the meeting that the system will feature 24 stations, including two underground stations. Mass transit depots will be established in Garjakh, Chan Da Qila, and Gondlanwala.
The briefing further revealed that a 62-kilometer-long drainage system will be developed along both sides of the transit corridor, while a modern command and control center will also be established to significantly transform Gujranwala’s transport culture.
