Kurram Sector: Pakistani Forces Respond to Border Firing
KURRAM, September 23, 2026: Pakistani security forces have foiled an alleged infiltration attempt by militants associated with Fitna al-Khawarij from the Kurram sector, according to security sources.
The sources said the attempted infiltration was carried out from positions in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar and Paktia provinces, where Afghan Taliban forces were allegedly overseeing the movement of the militants toward Pakistan.
According to the security sources, Pakistani forces detected and effectively countered the infiltration attempt before the militants could establish a foothold inside Pakistani territory.
Following the failed attempt, Afghan Taliban personnel reportedly opened fire on Pakistani border posts in the Kurram sector without warning. The firing, according to the sources, involved heavy weapons, mortars and other arms.
Pakistani security forces responded with fire from small and heavy weapons as well as artillery, targeting the reported firing positions along the border.
The security sources claimed that the response forced several Afghan Taliban personnel to abandon their posts and withdraw from the area. They added that Pakistani forces maintained control over their border positions while monitoring developments along the frontier.
Officials cited by the sources said security forces remain on high alert and are closely watching the border situation to respond to any further cross-border activity.
The latest incident comes amid repeated reports of attempted cross-border infiltration and militant activity from Afghan territory. Pakistani authorities have previously alleged that militants use bases and positions across the border to plan attacks inside Pakistan.
Three weeks earlier, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Pakistani troops had thwarted another infiltration attempt in North Waziristan and killed 15 militants. According to the military’s account at the time, the militants attempted to enter Pakistan from Afghanistan and the engagement continued for around 36 hours.
ISPR said heavy weapons and ammunition were also recovered during that operation.
The latest developments in the Kurram sector are expected to keep attention focused on security along Pakistan’s western border, particularly in areas facing increased militant activity and cross-border tensions.
