Imran Khan Reportedly Taken to PIMS

BREAKING: Imran Khan Moved from Adiala Jail to PIMS

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan has reportedly been taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad instead of Shifa International Hospital, according to a statement attributed to Dr. Uzma Khan.

The development comes amid questions surrounding the medical arrangements for the incarcerated former premier. According to the information presented in the circulated statement, there was an expectation that Imran Khan would be shifted to Shifa International Hospital following directions concerning his medical treatment.

Dr. Uzma Khan said that Imran Khan was brought to PIMS for medical assessment, including monitoring of his oxygen level and a medical check-up. She indicated that the decision was linked to the need to assess his immediate health condition.

The reported move has drawn attention because of the earlier reference to Shifa International Hospital as the proposed facility for his treatment. The circumstances surrounding the decision to take him to PIMS rather than Shifa remain a key point of discussion.

Imran Khan has been in custody since August 2023 and has faced multiple legal cases and convictions. His health and access to appropriate medical care have repeatedly become subjects of public and political debate.

Further details regarding his medical condition, the results of the examination and whether he will subsequently be transferred to another hospital are awaited.

BREAKING: Imran Khan Moved from Adiala Jail to Shifa Hospital

ISLAMABAD, August 21, 2026: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan has been shifted from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad under tight security, following an order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The transfer was carried out in the early hours of Friday after the Supreme Court directed authorities to move the incarcerated PTI founder to Shifa International Hospital for medical examination and treatment. A medical panel, including specialists and Khan’s personal physician, is expected to assess his condition.

Security arrangements at the hospital had been finalised ahead of the transfer, with police and Rangers deployed around the facility. Senior Islamabad police officials also reviewed the security arrangements before Khan was brought to the hospital.

Khan has remained imprisoned since August 2023. His health has become a growing concern for his family, lawyers and PTI supporters, with his legal team raising particular concerns about problems with his vision. The government, however, has maintained that medical reports did not indicate an immediate medical emergency.

The Supreme Court issued its hospital-transfer order on August 18, directing that Khan be moved to Shifa International Hospital within 48 hours. The order also provided for medical evaluation by specialists and access to his personal physician.

Khan is serving a 14-year prison sentence in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case, in which he and his wife were convicted in 2025. His separate Toshakhana cases concern state gifts and should not be conflated with the Al-Qadir Trust conviction.

The PTI has welcomed the hospital transfer, while continuing to demand improved access to Khan, proper medical treatment and progress in his legal cases. It remains unclear how long Khan will stay at the hospital following his medical assessment.
