Imran Khan Still in Adiala Jail Despite Court Order
ISLAMABAD, August 20, 2026: The legal team of former Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to file a contempt of court petition over the delay in implementing the Supreme Court’s order directing his transfer from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.
Imra’n Khan’s lawyer, Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, said all legal formalities had been completed and a certified copy of the court’s order had been formally submitted to the jail authorities.
He warned that any further delay in implementing the Supreme Court’s directive would fall within the ambit of contempt of court.
The development follows the government’s withdrawal of its review petition challenging the order to shift Imran Khan to the private hospital. Sources said the review petition was withdrawn after objections were raised and could be filed again after amendments and the addition of further grounds.
A three-member Supreme Court bench had ordered Imra’n Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital for medical examination and treatment until the next hearing on September 16.
The court also ordered the formation of a medical board comprising relevant specialists and allowed Imran Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma Khan, and personal physician Dr Faisal Sultan to remain involved in the medical process.
The ruling further allowed weekly meetings between Imran Khan and his family, as well as telephone communication with his sons living in London.
However, the court barred his family, party representatives and lawyers from publicly discussing his health until the next hearing.
The government has maintained that Imran Khan should be treated at a government hospital rather than a private facility, citing the legal framework applicable to convicted prisoners.
Imran Khan has been imprisoned at Adiala Jail since August 5, 2023, and has been convicted in the Al-Qadir Trust and Toshakhana cases.
