Islamabad: To provide convenience to the people in their bills, the government has prepared a plan to make electricity cheaper by Rs 8 to 10 per unit, under which the volume of circular debt will be eliminated.
Under the implementation of the government plan, a reduction of Rs 1.3 trillion in debt repayments will be created and the financial capacity generated by the reduction in debt will be used to reduce the price of electricity.
The plan will reduce the ongoing financial losses in the power sector.
According to sources, the IMF review mission will visit Pakistan early next month, during which this plan will be presented to the IMF mission.
It should be noted that the IMF has already rejected the plan to reduce taxes to reduce electricity rates. Sources say that under the government plan, the basic tariff will be reduced by Rs 8 to 10 per unit.
