FBR raids non-duty paid cigarette manufacturing factory on intelligence agency report, seizes largest federal excise duty evasion worth Rs 2.5 billion in cigarette sector in country’s history.
According to details, Federal Board of Revenue raided non-duty paid cigarette manufacturing factory in Bahawalnagar a few days ago on intelligence agency report, seizes largest duty tax evasion worth Rs 2.5 billion in cigarette sector in country’s history and seizes non-duty paid cigarettes worth over Rs 10 billion.
On the directions of Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Rashid Mahmood Langrial, Chief Commissioner RTO Bahawalpur Sahibzada Abdul Mateen, a special team comprising Commissioner RTO Mumtaz Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Imran Yousuf and Audit Officer Muhammad Kamran raided the factory.
Sources say that Rs 2.56 billion was being stolen in the form of federal excise duty on non-duty paid cigarettes worth more than Rs 10 billion and equipment used in cigarette manufacturing seized from the said cigarette factory.
Sources say that the said cigarette factory is said to belong to a very influential figure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but the FBR took action without taking any kind of influence or pressure into account, saving the national exchequer from a loss of billions of rupees.
