The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has ended favouritism on IRS grade 17 to 19 officers.
According to documents, Rs 160 million was provided to officers for house rent from December 2023 to December 2024. IRS officers were provided Rs 25,000 per month as house rent, while officers of Pakistan Customs, Auditors, IT and other departments were deprived of the facility.
IRS officers were given Rs 140 million as fuel subsidy during the year. Officers were given Rs 20,000 per month as fuel subsidy. All officers were given the money through bank transfer in their salary accounts. The FBR collects one rupee on each receipt under the Point of Sale Scheme.
According to FBR sources, this money was to be used in a campaign to prevent tax evasion. The money was to be used in a reward scheme on receipts submitted by consumers. The government has been holding up the reward scheme for the past several months.
