California: Recently, a team of scientists has discovered 6 types of depression by scanning the brains of several people.
According to a report published in the journal Nature Medicine, researchers examined the participants’ brain activity and identified six different types of depression based on the differences between them.
These distinctions have provided researchers with a choice of potentially optimal treatment regimens for the three types of depression. “To our knowledge, this is the first time we’ve been able to demonstrate that stress can be classified into different categories based on brain activity,” said senior researcher and Stanford Medicine Center director Lynn Williams.
For the study, researchers analyzed brain scans of 801 people diagnosed with depression or anxiety. The participants’ brains were scanned both during rest and during physical activity.
