NEW DELHI: Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan are facing growing criticism on social media and in sections of the Indian media for remaining silent over the ongoing student protests in New Delhi.
The debate has intensified as demonstrators continue to demand accountability over alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), education reforms, and the resignation of India’s Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan.
Critics argue that the three actors, regarded as some of India’s most influential public figures, have chosen not to publicly comment on the student movement despite their massive reach and influence. Their silence has also renewed discussions about their lack of public statements on other major national issues, including the farmers’ protests, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), and the #MeToo movement.
