AKUH Receives Third Consecutive International Platinum Award for Heart Attack Care
KARACHI, August 18, 2026: Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has earned its third consecutive Platinum Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology (ACC), recognising its continued commitment to evidence-based and guideline-directed care for heart attack patients.
The international recognition is linked to AKUH’s participation in the ACC Chest Pain-MI Registry, which enables hospitals to measure their cardiac care against established clinical standards and identify areas for improvement.
Through the registry, AKUH’s medical teams continuously evaluate the quality and consistency of heart attack treatment, from timely assessment and diagnosis to intervention and follow-up care. The data-driven approach helps clinicians strengthen treatment protocols while maintaining internationally recognised standards.
“This third consecutive international recognition is a strong endorsement of our commitment to evidence-based, patient-centred cardiac care,” said Dr Farhat Abbas T.I., S.I., CEO, AKU Health System, Pakistan. He said the award reflects the dedication of AKUH teams to providing safe, high-quality care while continuously working to improve patient outcomes.
Dr Javed Majid Tai, Director of the Cath Lab and Site Director of the National Cardiovascular Data Registry at AKUH, said participation in the registry enables the hospital to regularly assess its performance against established standards.
He described continuous measurement and learning as an important part of delivering consistent care to patients experiencing heart attacks.
The recognition comes amid growing concern over cardiovascular disease in Pakistan, including increasing attention to heart attacks among younger adults. Healthcare professionals emphasise that identifying risk factors early and strengthening prevention, diagnosis and treatment remain critical to reducing the impact of heart disease.
Dr Farhala Baloch, Assistant Professor in the Section of Cardiology at AKUH, said understanding changing patterns of cardiovascular disease is essential for improving prevention and treatment, particularly as heart attacks among younger people become an increasing concern.
AKUH said the third consecutive Platinum Performance Achievement Award reinforces its focus on continuous improvement, patient safety and high-quality cardiovascular care while highlighting the importance of data-driven approaches to heart attack treatment.
