BJP Leader Threatens Boycott of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘King’ Over Deepika Padukone’s Saffron Outfit
A BJP legislator has objected to Deepika Padukone’s saffron-coloured outfit in the song ‘Tu Mil Jaaye’, threatening nationwide protests and a boycott of Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film if the controversial scene is not removed.
A fresh controversy has erupted over Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King, after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravinder Singh Negi objected to actress Deepika Padukone’s saffron-coloured outfit featured in the film’s song ‘Tu Mil Jaaye’.
According to Indian media outlet News18, Negi, a BJP legislator from Delhi’s Patparganj constituency, has demanded that the filmmakers remove the scene featuring Deepika’s saffron outfit.
He warned that failure to meet the demand would lead to nationwide protests and a boycott campaign against the film.
During an interview, Negi also made controversial remarks about Shah Rukh Khan, referring to the actor as a “jihadi”. He alleged that Khan and others like him earn money in India while bringing disrepute to the country.
The BJP leader further claimed that the use of saffron clothing was a deliberate attempt to insult Hindu religious sentiments. He also criticised Deepika Padukone, saying she should feel ashamed of her role in the scene.
Saffron Outfit Controversy Recalls ‘Pathaan’
Negi also referred to Shah Rukh Khan’s 2023 blockbuster Pathaan, which faced similar controversy over the song ‘Besharam Rang’.
At the time, Deepika Padukone’s saffron-coloured bikini sparked objections from certain Hindu organisations and BJP leaders, who called for a boycott of the film.
Negi warned that a similar protest campaign could be launched against King if the disputed scene was not removed.
He also criticised actress Dia Mirza over her remarks about avoiding firecrackers during Diwali, questioning why some celebrities did not express similar views about animal sacrifice during Eid.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Upcoming Film ‘King’
King stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in leading roles and is directed by Siddharth Anand. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on December 24, 2026.
The song ‘Tu Mil Jaaye’ was released on November 2, coinciding with Shah Rukh Khan’s birthday. Deepika Padukone can be seen wearing a saffron-coloured outfit in the song.
As of November 6, neither Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone nor the film’s production team has publicly responded to Negi’s demand or boycott threat.
