Tetra Pak, WWF-Pakistan Honour Lahore School for Recycling Achievement

Lahore School Wins Recycling Award for Collecting 12,110 Cartons
LAHORE, October 31, 2026: Tetra Pak Pakistan and WWF-Pakistan have recognised Crescent Model Girls High School, Lahore, for collecting 173 kilograms of used beverage cartons through their joint Recycling Awareness Project, highlighting the role of students in promoting environmental sustainability and responsible waste management.
The school emerged as the Central Region winner after collecting approximately 12,110 used beverage cartons. In recognition of its achievement, it received furniture manufactured from recycled Tetra Pak cartons, demonstrating how discarded packaging can be transformed into practical and useful products.

The award ceremony was held on Thursday, October 29, 2026, and included the inauguration of the recycled furniture through a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Activities also featured a presentation highlighting the school’s recycling efforts, an educational quiz with Tetra Pak’s mascot, Captain Dubloo, and a mime performance on water conservation by senior students.
Speaking at the event, Muhammad Bin Shahzad, Sustainability Manager at Tetra Pak Pakistan, said students were not only future leaders but also agents of change today. He emphasised that responsible choices made by young people could create a positive impact beyond classrooms.
He added that the partnership with WWF-Pakistan reflected Tetra Pak’s commitment to strengthening collection and recycling initiatives while encouraging the younger generation to make informed environmental choices.
Hammad Naqi Khan, Director General of WWF-Pakistan, said young people could turn environmental awareness into meaningful action when provided with opportunities. He appreciated the students of Crescent Model Girls High School for demonstrating that environmental responsibility could begin in the classroom.

Mian Altaf Saleem, Managing Trustee of Crescent Education Trust, thanked Tetra Pak Pakistan and WWF-Pakistan for supporting the initiative and appreciated the dedication of students and teachers.
Launched in 2017 with support from Tetra Pak Pakistan, the Recycling Awareness Project has conducted 79 awareness sessions across Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Wah Cantt and Khanpur in Rahim Yar Khan. The initiative also introduced a used beverage carton collection competition, encouraging participating schools to translate environmental learning into practical action.
A total of 47 schools took part in the collection campaign, with Crescent Model Girls High School securing the top position in the Central Region.
Implemented by WWF-Pakistan’s Environmental Education Department, the project aims to integrate environmental education and sustainable waste management practices into Pakistan’s education system. By combining awareness sessions with hands-on activities, it encourages students to reduce waste and promote recycling in their schools and communities.
The initiative comes amid growing concerns over global waste generation. The World Bank estimates that annual global waste could increase by 73 percent by 2050, highlighting the need to adopt circular economy practices that reduce waste, maximise resource recovery and support environmental sustainability.
