The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening as Shroff was returning home with his driver after playing football. A crowd had gathered in the area hoping to catch a glimpse of the actor when the attackers allegedly fired at the vehicle.
According to reports, the injured included Shroff’s driver, Firdous, who sustained minor injuries, and another member of the actor’s staff. Both were taken to Nanavati Hospital for medical treatment. The driver was reported to be out of danger.
Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Allegedly Claims Responsibility
Indian media reports said that a message circulated on social media in which individuals identified as Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu allegedly claimed responsibility for the shooting on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
According to the reported message, Shroff had previously been warned but allegedly failed to heed the warning. The message also reportedly threatened individuals associated with Bollywood actor Salman Khan, raising concerns about the possible targeting of people connected to the film industry.
However, Mumbai Police had not publicly confirmed the authenticity of the message or established the gang’s involvement in the attack at the time of reporting.
Mumbai Police Launch Investigation
Mumbai Police have launched an investigation into the shooting and are working to identify and apprehend the suspected attackers. Investigators are reportedly examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to establish the sequence of events and trace those responsible.
Authorities are also examining the possible motive behind the attack. The identities of the assailants and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Condemns Attack
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde condemned the shooting and said gang-related violence would not be tolerated in Mumbai.
He reportedly assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible and stressed that artists should not have to live in fear. He also said the government would take steps to ensure their security.
