Pakistan, EU Sign €65 Million Agreements for Development
ISLAMABAD, September 21, 2026: Pakistan and the European Union have signed agreements worth €65 million to support three development programmes focusing on economic reforms, investment, energy sustainability and access to justice.
The agreements were signed by Economic Affairs Secretary Muhammad Hameer Karim and European Union Ambassador Raimundas Karoblis, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The programmes are designed to strengthen Pakistan’s tax system and improve long-term financial planning while creating a more supportive environment for domestic and foreign investment.
A key component will involve the EU Global Gateway programme, which is intended to help facilitate foreign investment in Pakistan and support initiatives related to energy and environmental sustainability.
Renewable Energy Initiatives in KP
The programmes will promote renewable energy solutions in off-grid rural areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while encouraging private investment and partnerships in the province’s energy sector.
Officials said the initiatives are also expected to improve electricity access for communities in rural areas.
Justice and Commercial Dispute Resolution
Another component of the agreements focuses on improving access to justice for citizens in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
In Punjab and Sindh, support will be provided to strengthen alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and systems for resolving commercial disputes.
The measures are expected to contribute to a more predictable business environment and potentially encourage greater interest from European and other international companies in Pakistan.
Officials Highlight Economic Cooperation
Economic Affairs Secretary Muhammad Hameer Karim welcomed the European Union’s continued support, saying the programmes are aligned with Pakistan’s objective of attracting foreign investment.
He said the initiatives would help improve rural electricity access and strengthen mechanisms for resolving commercial disputes.
EU Ambassador Raimundas Karoblis said the agreements reflected the bloc’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s economic development and investment.
