Mohsin Naqvi says security forces are prepared to prevent any attempt to advance towards Islamabad.
ISLAMABAD, September 18, 2026: Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi has warned that any attempt to storm Islamabad or advance towards the federal capital in groups would not be permitted, following the detailed judgment of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Addressing a press conference alongside Minister of State for Interior Senator Talal Chaudhry and Islamabad Advocate General Manzoor Ahmad, Naqvi said anyone violating the court’s directives would immediately face contempt of court proceedings.
The interior minister said security forces and law-enforcement agencies had been given clear instructions and were fully prepared to maintain public order and prevent any attempt to disrupt peace in the capital.
Mohsin Naqvi stated that security personnel would not remain silent spectators if protesters attempted to take the law into their own hands and would respond in accordance with the law.
Referring to the prevailing security situation, including the terrorist attack in Kohat and the sacrifices of security personnel, Naqvi questioned the decision to prepare for sit-ins and a march towards Islamabad while the nation was mourning fallen security personnel.
He urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the chief minister to concentrate on combating terrorism and strengthening the rule of law in the province instead of using resources for a march on the federal capital.
The minister drew a distinction between peaceful political rallies and attempts by groups to advance on Islamabad. He acknowledged peaceful protest as a democratic right of political parties but said such activities should remain within their respective areas and provinces and should not be used to besiege the capital or disrupt citizens’ daily lives.
Mohsin Naqvi further warned that if anyone lost their life during a confrontation, the organizers of the protest would be held responsible.
He appealed to opposition leaders to reconsider their decision, saying confrontation could have consequences for the country. He said the government’s primary objective was to protect citizens and minimize disruption to normal life in Islamabad.
Meanwhile, Islamabad Advocate General Manzoor Ahmad said security personnel would ensure that protesters did not move towards the capital.
He also said government machinery would not be allowed to be used in Islamabad for the protest. According to the advocate general, the Constitution provides for action against individuals who violate their constitutional responsibilities, including possible proceedings under Article 5.
