Apple iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Unveiled with A20 Pro Chip and AI
Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing a range of upgrades focused on photography, artificial intelligence, performance, battery life and connectivity.
The new Pro models feature a 48-megapixel Fusion main camera with a variable aperture, giving users greater control over photography. Apple says the upgraded sensor improves low-light performance and captures more detail, particularly in group photographs.
Pro-Level Camera Controls
The redesigned camera experience brings professional controls directly to the iPhone. Users can manually adjust settings including aperture, shutter speed and white balance, while a built-in histogram provides a clearer view of exposure levels.
Apple has also upgraded its computational photography system and introduced additional controls for texture and grain through its enhanced Photographic Styles.
Video recording receives several improvements as well. Users can apply cinematic effects after recording videos at up to 60 frames per second. The upgraded Time-lapse mode supports 4K and Dolby Vision HDR recording, while improvements to Audio Mix are designed to deliver clearer and more refined sound.
New Tool for Checking Image Authenticity
One of the notable additions is Apple’s Reference Image feature, which allows users to compare an image with an original reference version in the Photos app.
The feature is designed to help users visually determine whether an image has been altered, adding another layer of transparency when evaluating digital photographs.
Redesigned Dynamic Island
Apple has also redesigned the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. According to the company, the updated interface can display up to three Live Activities simultaneously.
Core security functions, including Face ID for unlocking the device and authorizing payments, remain integrated into the redesigned system.
A20 Pro Chip Brings Major Performance Gains
Powering the new devices is Apple’s A20 Pro chip, built using a 2-nanometer process. The chip offers up to 50 percent greater memory bandwidth compared with the previous-generation A19 Pro.
The processor includes a six-core CPU with integrated neural accelerators, while its seven-core GPU is claimed to deliver up to 40 percent faster performance than the A19 Pro.
The A20 Pro also features a dual 16-core Neural Engine, providing a combined 32 neural cores aimed at accelerating on-device artificial intelligence and computational photography.
Apple’s new N1 wireless networking chip is included in both models, bringing support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread.
Significant Battery and Charging Improvements
Battery performance has also received a major upgrade, particularly on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Apple says eSIM-equipped models can deliver up to 36 hours of video playback on the iPhone 18 Pro and 45 hours on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The iPhone 18 Pro can reach 50 percent charge in around 15 minutes using wired charging, while wireless charging can reach the same level in approximately 30 minutes. On the Pro Max, around five minutes of wired charging can provide up to seven hours of video playback.
iOS 27 and AI-Powered Siri
The new iPhones run iOS 27 and include Apple’s latest intelligence features. Siri AI will initially be available in beta and is designed to understand a user’s personal context more effectively.
The upgraded assistant can help users locate relevant information across messages, emails and photos based on what they are looking for.
Apple says privacy remains a central part of its AI approach, with Apple Intelligence relying on on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute for supported tasks.
Pricing and Availability
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be offered with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage options.
The devices will be available in Black, Silver, Glacier and a new Burgundy finish.
In the United States, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299.
Pre-orders are scheduled to begin on September 12, with both models expected to become available on September 18, 2026.
