US Warns Iran: More Strikes Could Come If Needed, Says Hegseth
Washington: The United States has kept the option of further military action against Iran open, with US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth warning that American forces could carry out additional strikes if necessary.
Speaking to reporters in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Hegseth said kinetic military operations against Iran had not been placed on hold. He stressed that Washington would use military force if circumstances required it.
Hegseth also claimed that the United States maintains firm control over the Strait of Hormuz and is protecting the flow of oil through the strategic waterway. He said Iran’s military capabilities in the area had been significantly weakened following previous U S operations.
The U S defense chief said Washington was simultaneously increasing economic pressure on Tehran. According to Hegseth, the latest sanctions and broader economic measures are putting severe pressure on Iran’s economy and could push Tehran toward negotiations.
He said Iran’s remaining option was to return to the negotiating table, particularly over its nuclear program.
The remarks come as tensions remain high over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy route. Recent developments have also included intensified U S sanctions against Iran and continuing efforts to restore normal commercial shipping through the waterway.
Hegseth’s comments indicate that Washington is pursuing a dual strategy of economic pressure and military deterrence, while leaving open the possibility of further strikes if the situation escalates.
The conflict has now entered its sixth month, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major flashpoint and a key concern for global energy markets.
