Islamabad, (People’s Daily) – A delegation from China’s Fudan University recently conducted a productive education and recruitment tour in Pakistan, underscoring the university’s commitment to deepening academic collaboration with Pakistani partners. Led by Dr. Su Kui, Director of the International Students Office, the delegation comprised representatives from the School of Computing and Intelligence Innovation, the School of Journalism, the Institute of International Studies, and the Institute of Modern Physics.
During the visit from May 18 to 20, the delegation held meetings with the Pakistan Higher Education Commission and the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan. Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral higher education cooperation, facilitating student mobility from Pakistan to China, and expanding faculty training programs. The delegation engaged in substantive talks with HEC Chairman Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar to explore concrete collaborative initiatives. Cultural Counsellor Chen Peng of the Chinese Embassy and Deputy Consul General Cao Ke of the Consulate General in Lahore welcomed the delegation. They encouraged the university, as a leading Chinese institution, to play a great role in fostering cooperation with Pakistan.
The itinerary included visits to key Pakistani academic institutions. In Islamabad, the delegation met with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal of Quaid-i-Azam University, hosting a dedicated “Study at Fudan” information session. The group also exchanged views with nearly 30 department heads from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) and toured its Science and Technology Innovation Park. A visit to the National School of Public Policy (NSPP) facilitated discussions on public policy talent development. In Lahore, the delegation visited Beaconhouse National University, holding talks with Chancellor Dr. Moeed Yusuf and participating in an academic exchange with over 20 faculty representatives from five universities, including the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).
At the recruitment sessions, Dr. Su Kui and faculty representatives detailed Fudan’s international strategy, leading disciplines, English-taught postgraduate programs, and international student admission and scholarship policies. The events fostered dynamic discussions on research synergy, faculty exchanges, and joint innovation. A highlight was the promotion of Fudan’s Belt and Road Pioneer Program tailored for Pakistani students, which generated significant interest among attendees.

Academic dialogue was a central component of the visit. Professor Zhang Jiegen, Director of the Fudan University Pakistan Study Center, engaged Pakistani scholars in in-depth discussions on the high-quality development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), regional security, and think tank cooperation mechanisms. Professor Ye Guangnan from the School of Computing and Intelligence Innovation shared insights on cultivating talent in artificial intelligence, while Professor Cai Laizhong from the Institute of Modern Physics discussed training approaches in physics education.
The delegation organized special screenings of the documentary The Moon Is Yours, produced by Fudan University, at both Quaid-i-Azam University and Beaconhouse National University, attracting over 200 students. Ms. Xia Tianyi, Vice Dean of the School of Journalism, noted that the documentary, created under the guidance of the Shanghai Information Office, took three years to complete with participation from more than 100 Fudan students. In 2025, the film received the “Golden Seagull” Award in the International Communication category at the 4th Chinese Documentary Film Conference.

Additionally, the delegation met with Fudan alumni based in Islamabad, extending warm regards to the overseas alumni community. Attendees included Chinese correspondents from major media outlets, Chinese managerial and technical staff from companies like Huawei stationed in Pakistan, and Pakistani alumni who now serve in pivotal roles within local government, academia, and enterprises. Alumni shared their experiences of life and work in Pakistan and offered valuable suggestions on fostering people-to-people exchanges, deepening industry-university-research collaboration, and strengthening the alumni network. The delegation updated them on the university’s latest developments and encouraged them to continue serving as ambassadors of Sino-Pakistan friendship, contributing Fudan’s strength to advancing educational cooperation and cultural connectivity between the two nations.
The visit not only consolidated Fudan University’s partnerships with Pakistani governmental bodies and leading universities but also provided a vibrant platform for direct engagement with outstanding Pakistani students. By offering a genuine and multifaceted glimpse into campus life at Fudan, the tour has laid a solid foundation for attracting future international talent and fostering deeper, more substantive education cooperation between China and Pakistan.
