CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif on World Day :
Lahore, 28 April 2026: In her special message on World Day for Safety & Health at Work, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif committed to the safety and rehabilitation of workers. She declared workplace safety, health, and employees’ well-being as fundamental pillars of a nation’s development, and emphasized on protection of physical and mental health of labor in factories; and directed the Labour Department and other institutions to take strict action against violators of workplace laws. She vowed that worker safety and public health are top priorities of Punjab government; and directed the authorities concerned to ensure safety of equipment, besides protective measures in factories, plants, and offices.
Chief Minister Punjab said that there is a need for strict implementation of protective equipment and safety protocols to protect labor, workers, and laborers from workplace hazards, because only a healthy and safe worker can build a strong nation. She added that owners of all institutions and industrial units should prioritize workers’ safety by taking necessary steps for their well-being, and underscored that she is committed to the health, well-being, and safety of every worker in Punjab.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that awareness of a safety culture in factories, offices, and workplaces is essential, so they are amending labor laws to protect employees. She highlighted that monthly financial assistance is being provided to 1.4 million laborers through the ration card scheme; while during the current fiscal year, ration cards will be issued to an additional 50,000 factory laborers.
Chief Minister Punjab acknowledged that workforce is a nation’s valuable asset, so their health and safety cannot be compromised. She said that protecting employees’ lives and property, besides providing them a safe working environment is responsibility of a government. Therefore, implementing international standard safety laws is essential to prevent workplace accidents. Reiterating her commitment to creating a safe environment where workers feel mentally and physically secure, she noted that companies that neglect employees’ health and safety will face fines.
