Maryam Nawaz Sharif Inaugurates Phase -2
Rawalpindi, 19 November 2025: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif pressed a button to inaugurate Phase -2 of Rawalpindi’s first-ever and biggest electric public transport project. Launch of the said project has introduced a fleet of 45 new e-buses, marking a new beginning of Potohar region’s first-ever green public transport system.

As eco-friendly buses started operation, streets of Rawalpindi, known as the heart of Potohar, lit up with a fresh energy and excitement. A grand ceremony was held in Rawalpindi where she received a warm and enthusiastic welcome. People expressed pride and joy as the historic initiative was unveiled. The venue echoed with slogans of “Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, your admirers, people of Rawalpindi.”

During the ceremony, she announced that the number of electric buses in Rawalpindi Division would be increased up to 145, and declared that residents of Jhelum, Chakwal and Attock would each receive 15 electric buses, ensuring modern and environmentally-friendly transport system in the entire region. The new e-buses are air-conditioned, equipped with CCTV cameras and designed to offer a comfortable, safe and eco-friendly travel experience.

The fare has been fixed at just Rs. 20 per ride, while students, senior citizens, women and persons with disabilities can travel free of cost.In Rawalpindi city, electric bus service will operate on multiple routes, including Railway Station to Hamrahi Bus Terminal, Fawara Chowk to Koral Chowk, Saddar Station to Munawar Colony and Marrir Chowk to Motorway Chowk.

Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, MNA Tahira Aurangzeb and Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar also addressed the ceremony, and commended Punjab government’s initiative for introducing a modern, sustainable and people-friendly transport system.
