ISLAMABAD : Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU),
Islamabad, on Monday conferred International Adjunct Faculty status on Prof. Dr. Gunesh
P. Rajan, Vice-Chairman, Department of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery, Luzerner
Kantonsspital, Switzerland, and Professor of Medical Sciences at the University of
Lucerne, in recognition of his outstanding academic and professional achievements.
The honour was presented by Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq, Vice Chancellor of Shaheed
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University and himself a renowned national surgeon, during
the inaugural ceremony of the 7th Islamabad ENT Hands-on Cadaver Dissection Course
held at a local hotel in Islamabad.
His Excellency Mr. George Steiner, Ambassador of Switzerland to Pakistan, graced
the ceremony as Guest of Honour. The event brought together senior health professionals,
medical educators, and trainees from Pakistan and abroad.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Tanwir Khaliq said the conferment reflects SZABMU’s
growing role in bridging clinical excellence with academic innovation.
He highlighted that surgical disciplines — particularly cardiac and ENT surgery — are witnessing rapid
transformation through advanced training and simulation-based learning, areas where
SZABMU aims to establish itself as a regional leader in the coming years. He added that
the university is committed to equipping young surgeons with world-class skills that align
with international patient safety and procedural standards.
Prof. Dr. Altaf Hussain, Chairman of the Islamabad Cadaveric ENT Course and Head of
the Department of ENT at PIMS Hospital, said the course has evolved into one of the
region’s leading surgical training platforms, combining practical cadaveric learning with
mentorship from international experts.
He added that this year’s participation fromSwitzerland, Saudi Arabia, and other partner countries underscores the global recognitionof SZABMU’s academic standards and training excellence.
The week-long course, hosted at the Surgical Skills Lab, PIMS, will continue until October
10, 2025, offering advanced training in endoscopic and microscopic techniques for ENT
surgeons.
University officials said the initiative reaffirms SZABMU’s commitment to building
sustainable international partnerships and positioning Pakistan as a hub for advanced
medical education and research through its Department of Global Engagements.
