Riyadh: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in which the situation in Gaza, the Israel-Hamas ceasefire and security issues in the region were discussed.
According to US State Department spokesperson Timmy Bruce, Rubio stressed the importance of such arrangements regarding Gaza that ensure regional security.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the two leaders also discussed global peace, stability and regional security.
Marco Rubio is on a tour of the Middle East, before which President Donald Trump’s proposal to resettle Palestinians from Gaza in other Arab countries caused a strong reaction in the Arab world.
Following Rubio’s visit, US officials are expected to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, which could discuss ending the Ukraine war and restoring US-Russia relations. However, there was no mention of discussions on this issue in the meeting between Rubio and bin Salman.
