Former left-back of Spanish football club Real Madrid Marcelo has announced his retirement from professional football.
The 36-year-old Brazilian Marcelo said in a message on social media that Real Madrid knocked on his door at the age of 18 and he came there. Now he can proudly say that he is a true ‘Madrileño’. What a journey it has been. Real Madrid is a unique club.
Former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo described Marcelo’s career as great in an Instagram post, saying that the two spent a long time together and achieved many successes, victories and unforgettable memories during this time.
It should be noted that Marcelo and Real Madrid were together for 16 years and during this time the club won the La Liga title six times and the Champions League trophy five times.
Marcelo, on the other hand, has represented Brazil 58 times, including the 2014 and 2018 World Cups. He was also part of the winning team of the Confederations Cup in 2013.
