The newly elected US President Donald Trump has suffered a major setback. The court has ordered the $5 million fine to be upheld in the sexual harassment case.
According to US media, the Federal Appeals Court has upheld the jury’s verdict against Donald Trump, under which Trump was ordered to pay $5 million in a defamation case against a female journalist and writer for sexually harassing her.
A New York jury found President-elect Donald Trump guilty of sexually harassing writer and journalist E. Jane Carroll in a Manhattan department store in 1996 after a 9-day trial last year.
The court ordered the US President to pay $2 million for sexually harassing the female journalist and $3 million for damaging her reputation. The newly elected President had denied the allegations and appealed the decision, which was rejected by the federal court. The court has previously ordered Trump to pay Carroll $83 million in a separate case.
