In Afghanistan, the Taliban government has banned windows in homes that expose the nakedness of neighbors and women in the house itself.
According to the international news agency, the Taliban spokesman said that this ban is being imposed on the orders of Amir Habtullah Akhundzada.
It has been claimed on the Taliban government’s social media platform X that watching women collect water from the kitchen, yard or wells can lead to obscene acts.
The Taliban spokesman said that now new buildings should avoid having windows that overlook neighbors’ houses, especially the yard, kitchen, neighbors’ wells and other places used by women.
Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said that such windows in buildings expose not only women from other houses but also women in that house.
The statement added that if such windows already exist, homeowners should build such walls or install barriers to prevent exposure and to protect neighbors from disturbance.
The decree states that municipal authorities and relevant departments have been tasked with ensuring that new buildings comply with these new rules and regulations.
The United Nations has condemned these policies of the Taliban government as “gender discrimination.”
It should be noted that since August 2021, under the Taliban regime, girls’ schools and women’s jobs have been banned.
In addition, images and voices of women cannot be broadcast on TV. Women are also prohibited from talking or singing loudly in public places, including beauty parlors and gyms.
Ignoring criticism of these restrictions from Western countries and international organizations, the Taliban maintains that their rule is in accordance with Islamic principles, which they say guarantee the rights of men and women in Afghanistan.
