Karachi: The Monetary Policy Committee will meet today, Monday, December 16. The committee will determine the interest rate for the next one and a half months by considering the inflation situation and economic indicators.
After inflation reached 4.9 percent in November 2024, a significant reduction in the policy rate is expected in the review to be held on Monday. Earlier, in the meeting on November 4, the policy rate was reduced by 250 basis points to 15 percent.
The business community and the industrial sector are pushing for a large reduction in the policy rate at once. In view of the continuous decline in inflation, the State Bank has expected the average inflation forecast for the current fiscal year to be lower than the estimates of 11.5 to 13.5 percent.
Similarly, the real growth rate in the current fiscal year is also likely to be higher than the estimates of 2.5 to 3.5 percent.
