After the Indian team’s refusal to participate in the Champions Trophy and Pakistan’s tough stance, a proposed new option has also come to the fore to deal with the difficult situation.
According to sources, talks can be held to save the event with a take-or-give formula, but for this, both Pakistan and the Indian board will have to show flexibility in their stance.
Under the possible formula, the Indian team will come to Pakistan to play one of the three matches at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, play the match there and then return to their country or the UAE.
If the Indian team qualifies for the semi-finals, the match should be held in the UAE, however, if it succeeds in making it to the final, it will have to come to Lahore and play.
PCB should be given a higher share of the ICC Champions Trophy revenue to offset the potential loss due to the Indian team’s matches not being held in Pakistan. Adopting this option could help both the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Pakistan and the Indian Cricket Board get out of a difficult situation.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), unhappy with the Indian team’s refusal to come to Pakistan, will also get some relief in convincing its position, while the Indian Cricket Board will also be able to convince its side of the hybrid model to some extent.
On the other hand, the ICC has not yet responded to the PCB’s letter.
