Lahore, the capital of Punjab, is again on the first place in the list of the most polluted cities in the world, while various diseases started spreading among the citizens due to the worsening smog situation in the city.
The air pollution situation in Lahore is still worse today, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was 824 in the morning which was recorded around 710 by 10 am.
India’s New Delhi is second with an air quality index of 439, Vietnam’s Hanoi is third with 175 AQI, and Bosnia’s Sarajevo is fourth with 170 AQI.
Note that AKI measures the amount of particulate matter in the atmosphere, including fine particulate matter (PM2.5), coarse particulate matter (PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ozone (O3). Including, AQIs above 100 are considered ‘harmful’ while above 150 are considered ‘very harmful’.
Due to the worst situation of smog, the Punjab government has closed educational institutions up to 12th standard in 18 districts including Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Multan divisions.
According to the notification issued by the Punjab government, the public and private educational institutions will remain closed till November 17, during which the classes will be online.
The provincial administration has also instructed the citizens in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad and Gujranwala divisions to wear masks till January 31.
On the other hand, in view of the smog in Lahore, citizens began to suffer from various diseases, complaints of throat, eye, ear and respiratory diseases are coming from the citizens.
