Rio de Janeiro: Elon Musk’s X social media platform in Brazil is officially on the verge of closure.
Brazil is one of X’s biggest markets with millions of users. Supreme Court Justice Alexander DeMaurice has ordered the closure of X after accusing the company of failing to appoint a legal representative in the country.
The shutdown marks an escalation in a months-long dispute between Elon Musk and Justice DeMaurice over free speech and misinformation posts.
In his shutdown order, Justice DeMaurice said X will remain suspended until the company complies with his order. Additionally, fines of up to $8,900 are set for individuals or firms that attempt to access the site through a virtual private network, VPN, or any other means.
It should be noted that X was active in Brazil until August 30, but the platform was officially taken offline a day later.
