ISLAMABAD: Capacity charges are the main cause of expensive electricity in the country, while 22 government companies account for 48 percent of the capacity charges.
According to the sources, government power plants are also continuously washing their hands in the flowing Ganga, 169 billion 36 crores were paid to 22 government companies in the last three months.
WAPDA’s 21 power plants could run at 21% capacity, but 21 billion 27 crore capacity charges were paid to WAPDA’s power plants.
Malakand 3 power plant owned by KP government ran at 40% capacity but Malakand 3 power plant took 20 crore charges at 100% generation capacity. Quaid-e-Azam Thermal, owned by the Punjab government, operated 42 percent but received 11 billion 52 crores.
10 billion 64 crore rupees were paid to the closed power plant of Punjab Thermal Power Company without any unit, while Quaid-e-Azam Solar of Punjab took 2 billion 41 crore rupees by 16.3%.
The 3 Junkos of the federal government carried capacity charges of 5.95 billion rupees running only 5.8%.
Jhang and Blocki RLNG power plants operated at 72% but collected 15 billion 73, 4 units of Chashma Nuclear operated at 80% capacity but collected 37 billion 33 crore while Canap was paid the highest 64 billion 23 crore.
