ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Finance rejected the proposal to impose 18 percent sales tax on baby milk.
A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance was held under the chairmanship of Senator Saleem Mandviwala, in which Senator Farooq H. Naik said that not every man in Pakistan has a bank account. Until everyone has a bank account, it is difficult to document the economy.
FBR officials said that 10 percent sales tax is proposed on stationary items, 18 percent sales tax is proposed on milk and baby formula. Cash assistance will be provided to the needy. Senator Sherry Rehman said that there is 40% stunting rate in the country, increasing the sales tax on milk is excessive. There was no consultation on this. Anush Rehman said that this proposal is cruel. On which the committee rejected the proposal to impose 18% sales tax on baby milk.
Senator Farooq H. Senator Saleem Mandviwala said that the tax exemption of Fata Pata has been misused. Zeeshan Khanzada said that Azad Kashmir was also given tax exemption, instead of giving government jobs, industry should be given in the area.
Senator Salim Mandviwala said that the manufacturers say that the tax exemption was given for the raw materials, on which the chairman committee said that these raw materials are also being sold to the manufacturers here.
Anush Rehman said that 18% tax will be imposed on surgical instruments, now even getting sick will become expensive, to which the FBR officials said that earlier tax was exempted on surgical instruments, now 18% tax has been imposed.
